Five Element Theory: Creative Cycle

Wood

Starting with the Liver, place your place hands over the bottom ribs on the right side. The element associated with the liver is Wood. Visualize your liver glowing a bright green color. Inhale into the abdomen and as you exhale make the sound “Ssshhhhh” very gently, and think of all anger leaving your body. Inhale and think of acceptance of all things that you cannot control. (As you exhale, lean VERY SLIGHTLY, GENTLY to the right. As you inhale, straighten up.)

Wood Creates Fire

Place your hands over your Heart, palms resting on your chest, slightly to the left side. The element associated with the heart is Fire. Visualize your heart glowing a beautiful red color. Inhale into the abdomen and as you exhale make the sound “Haaaaaaa” very gently, and think of all excessiveness leaving your body. Inhale and think of bringing in a balanced sense of joy. (As you exhale, lean VERY SLIGHTLY, GENTLY forward. As you inhale, straighten up.)

Fire Creates Earth

Place your palms over your Spleen (over the left bottom ribs), The element associated with the spleen is Earth. Visualize your spleen glowing a beautiful yellow color. Inhale into the abdomen and as you exhale make the sound “Whooo (slight groaning)” very gently, and think of all worry and grief leaving your body. Inhale and think of bringing in a sense of being carefree. (As you exhale, lean VERY SLIGHTLY, GENTLY to the left. As you inhale, straighten up.)

Earth Creates Metal

Place your hands over your Lungs (right hand on upper left lung, left hand on upper right lung). The element associated with the lungs is Metal. Visualize your lungs glowing a beautiful white color. Inhale into the abdomen and as you exhale make the sound “Ssssssss” very gently, and think of all self-loathing leaving your body. Inhale and think of bringing in a sense of self-love. (As you exhale, lean VERY SLIGHTLY, GENTLY forward. As you inhale, straighten up and stretch the arms outward to the side and backward, palms facing the sky. Exhale bringing the palms back to the lungs.)

Metal Creates Water Place your palms over your Kidneys, on your lower back (if this is uncomfortable, put backs of hands over the kidneys). The element associated with the kidneys is Water. Visualize your kidneys glowing a beautiful black or dark blue color. Inhale into the abdomen and as you exhale make the sound “Woooooo” as if you are very gently blowing out a candle, and think of all fear leaving your body. Inhale and think of bringing in a sense of fearlessness. (As you exhale, lean VERY SLIGHTLY, GENTLY forward. As you inhale, straighten up.) Breathe normally for a few minutes and notice how your body is feeling. Compare how you were feeling prior to doing this exercise and how you are feeling now. To get the greatest benefit from this form of Qigong, we recommend daily practice.
